Chairman’s Letter

Dear Members, Colleagues and Partners

The signing of the contract with Rhode Island Commerce Corporation at OWC2019 (see article ) was a great example of the achievements of the Humber being harnessed by other regions around the world.

We identified the potential to assist the East Coast USA with their ambitious offshore wind targets a number of years ago. They are at the start of their journey and we’ve been developing relationships with key people who are very keen to learn from us to ensure they get it right from the outset – and that includes building an offshore wind community like Team Humber Marine Alliance.

As this newsletter hits your inboxes, I will have returned from the USA with AURA, the first visit since the formal agreement. As things progress, we hope and anticipate that it will produce opportunities for our membership. It’s fantastic that the Humber is being recognised globally as a major contributor to the development of the offshore wind industry and that increasingly, we are being approached for our expertise.

The latest interest has been from Korea and on Tuesday, July 16, we hosted a visit from Kunsan National University and the Korea Electric Association.  After a tour of  the Grimsby port area they went on to the University of Hull at the which we signed an MOU for the purpose of collaboration.  We’ll tell you more about this is our next newsletter.

OWC2019 was a great event this year and I’d like to thank all who attended and contributed. We are already planning the OWC2020 when we’ll also be marking two significant anniversaries – 10 years as a not-for-profit company and 25 years since Team Humber Marine Alliance was set up.

More details on our celebrations will follow (and they would be nothing without you joining in with us!) but save the dates for OWC2020 which will take place on 29 and 30 April. Venue to be confirmed.

We have more news than can fit into this letter, so we aim to have the next THMAil with you by mid to end of August.  Until then, enjoy the good weather and we’ll see you at the joint THMA/GRP Summer get together on 8 August in Grimsby.

Kind regards

Mark
